Visitors to this downtown oasis quickly appreciate the variety and diversity among palm trees. They come in all sizes and, yes, shapes, from the lowly cabbage palm to the stately royal palm. The pocket park boasts 500 palms and cycads from 150 different species that include the common coconut palm as well as the more exotic African oil palm, sugar palm and grugru palm. Formerly a miniature golf course, this lovely park, with its brick-lined walkways, is named after the resident who initially funded its development and opening. Signs identify all the palms in the garden, which has pathways wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs.
