The Public Works Department is responsible for the supervision and maintenance of water, wastewater and stormwater systems throughout the City of Fort Lauderdale in Florida and several surrounding communities. The department also maintains various city-owned buildings, public streets and rights-of-way properties. The Public Works Department provides a variety of infrastructural services and employs more than 500 staff members. It also collects newspaper, glass, plastic, aluminum, steel, corrugated cardboard and poly-coated paper containers for recycling. In addition, the department provides pilot commercial and multifamily recycling collection programs. The Public Works Department s engineering division offers a variety of engineering, architectural and project management services.
