Established in 1944, the Palm Beach County Health Department is a part of the Florida Department of Health. It assesses the public health status, prevents epidemics and the spread of disease, protects against environmental hazards, guards against the occurrence of injury-causing situations and responds to disasters. The department assures the quality and accessibility of health services and provides family planning and pediatric care. The Palm Beach County Health Department administers the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), which helps HIV-positive individuals to stay healthy by assisting with the purchase of HIV prescription medications. The program provides HIV drug-related treatment for individuals who do not have private health insurance. In addition, the department offers case management, nutritional counseling and dental care services. It maintains clinical health services and environmental health and engineering divisions. The Palm Beach County Health Department operates a health center with a location in Lantana, Fla.
