Miami s Department of Fire-Rescue provides fire suppression and rescue services. The department is a division of the city s government. It provides mitigation of and recovery from a variety of conditions that adversely threaten the safety of the public. The department s primary operations consist of confining and extinguishing various types of fires. As an extension of the department s rescue services, it also provides pre-hospital, emergency medical care. In addition, it controls spills and incidents involving hazardous materials, participates in campaigns for community awareness regarding fire safety and offers disaster preparation and abatement with relation to hurricanes and terrorist actions. The Department of Fire-Rescue operates more than 10 stations throughout the city.
