The Atlantic Beach Police Department provides safety and security and protects lives and property through crime prevention and law enforcement. It maintains administration, patrol, investigations and animal control divisions, as well as employs crossing guards and lifeguards. The department undertakes criminal investigations, preventive patrol, traffic enforcement and crash investigations and record keeping. The Atlantic Beach Police Department has an emergency communication center that receives, screens, dispatches and records calls for police, fire and medical services. It conducts business security surveys, as well as child seat installation and neighborhood and crime watch programs. The department employs more than 40 sworn and nonsworn members and over 20 lifeguards. The Atlantic Beach Police Department supports a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team that conducts drug raids, deals with barricaded suspects and hostage situations.
