Broward Sheriff s Office is one of the largest nationally accredited sheriff's departments in the United States. It has more than 6,000 employees, including more than 2,500 certified deputies and over 600 fire rescue professionals. The department provides full-time law enforcement services in 14 Broward cities and towns, and in all of Broward's unincorporated areas, serving more than one-third of the county. BSO s Department of Law Enforcement administers various special units, including the road patrol, bomb squad, K-9 unit, school resource deputy unit, and the child protective investigations unit, which investigates allegations of abuse and neglect against county's children. Its Department of Detention and community control administers the county s jails and its offenders program, including drug court and county probation, and the Department of Fire Rescue provides fire suppression, fire protection, emergency medical services, and educational programs.
