The Inter-American Defense Board is an international defense and security organization that promotes cooperative security interests in the western hemisphere. It provides technical advice and services to the Organization of American States. Located in Washington, D.C., the board offers various programs, such as education for peace, disaster preparedness and confidence building programs. It also offers a humanitarian demining program that assists the Central American states in destroying landmines found in their national territories. Additionally, the board operates an international education institution, which provides a senior-level academic program in security studies for the military, national police and civilian leaders. Its library offers subscriptions to more than 10,000 hand-bound volumes and over 200 periodicals. It also offers committee reports and serves as a depository for official publications of the college.
