History
DC Film Alliance was founded by filmmaker, Jon Gann after starting DC Shorts Film Festival in 2003. What originally began as an in-person coalition of film festival directors working to collaborate and support one another's events, soon grew into a large Facebook group that included directors from all over the world. This eventually sprouted a comprehensive online database of resources for DC festival directors, independent filmmakers and film lovers alike. Subsequently, DC Film Alliance applied for non-profit status and became the official parent organization for programming like DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenplay Competition, DC Shorts WINS!, DC Shorts LAUGHS!, DC Shorts Real to Reel, and DC Mentors, as well as the continued host of the online resources.
