American Educational Research Association, founded in 1916, is an international professional organization that assists in curriculum development and promotes dissemination and practical application of educational research. AERA has 12 divisions that focus on substantive and professional interests, including administration and curriculum support to staff trainers and education policy and politics. It has more than 22,000 members, including educators, administrators, directors of research, people working with testing and evaluation in federal, state and local agencies, counselors and graduate students. The organization supports a broad range of disciplines including education, psychology, statistics, sociology, history, economics, philosophy, anthropology and political science. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
