Founded in 1965, American Academy of Actuaries is a professional organization that represents all actuaries from every practice area. The academy establishes and maintains actuarial qualification, practice and conduct and represents the profession before the federal and state governments. It also assists in shaping public policy by providing lawmakers and industry leaders with information, analysis and education. The academy works towards promoting public awareness and recognition of the actuary's role in society through the dissemination of information, testimony on Capitol Hill and speeches at meetings and actuarial clubs throughout the country. The academy is based in Washington, D.C.
