History
Grassroots was started by Marilyn Dickey and Vonna Taylor in April of 1975. The shop began in a 100 square foot space which was a storage space for another business. The small alleyway off of Main Street where it was located was called Horseshoe Lane. The Newark location eventually outgrew its space and moved onto Main Street next to the State Theater. It remained there for a number of years and then moved again to a larger space across the street. Around 1997, the business relocated to its current space at the corner of Academy and Main Streets.
