Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has a long and prosperous history. The Dover Gas Light Company, established in 1859, eventually became Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, even though the company was not officially incorporated in the state of Delaware until nearly 90 years later in 1947. The very next year, the company acquired two smaller gas companies, one in Seaford, Del., and the other in nearby Salisbury, Md. Chesapeake Utilities consists of four primary business segments that include natural gas distribution, transmission and marketing, propane distribution and wholesale marketing and advanced information systems and other services. Its regulated business activities include natural gas distribution and transmission, while its unregulated activities include natural gas marketing, propane distribution and wholesale marketing, advanced information services and distributed generation. Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is headquartered in Dover, Del.
