History
Carlisle's Marine, Inc. has been serving the boating needs of Delaware since 1946. Founded by Merle Carlisle, the company began in Newark as a part-time business building 12'-16' wooden runabouts. In 1949, Merle and Carlisle's Marine became an official Mercury Outboard dealer. The retail store was built on a piece of adjoining property as the company expanded. The business continued to grow, and in 1950, Merle's son Merle Jr. came on board, taking part in the family business. Carlisle's Marine had expanded into selling factory-built wooden boats by well-known names including Trojan, Penn Yann, and Owens. As inboard/outboard motors came on the market, Carlisle's Marine took on the challenge. Few boats would accept the new equipment, so our team would acquire the original outboard versions and completely rebuild the transom to install the new inboard/outboards. The business continued to grow, and in the mid-1980s Merle Jr.'s son Rick Carlisle joined the company, continuing the family
