History
I first started baking (and decorating) Christmas cookies with my mom when I was a kid. Once I was living on my own and working full time as an RN, I started trying to make healthier foods. I have a major sweet tooth, but didn't want to sacrifice taste to make the sweets I baked healthier, so I started baking with whole wheat, whole grain, and non-conventional flours. I found that using these flours added a depth of flavor and made me fuller quicker, so I wouldn't eat so many cookies in one sitting! When I met my husband, I learned that his dad and sister both had Celiac disease, so I started making gluten free desserts as well. More recently, since watching The Great British Baking Show, I've become incredibly inspired by all the bakers on the show, and started baking 4-5 times per week. I took the leap to start making yeast breads, and found that I really enjoyed it, so now it is one of the items that I enjoy baking the most.
