Located in the same facility at 263 Olcott Street that houses the town's Dog Pound and Sewage Treatment Plant, Manchester's landfill accepts both commercial waste from throughout the region and certain "bulky" residential waste items, although the town prefers that residents dispose of those items curbside during regular collection days. Residents who wish to use the landfill and transfer station for disposal purposes either must purchase a yearly landfill permit or pay by individual load. There is no charge to dispose of leafs or grass clippings at the compost area. The town's Sanitation Fund, funded primarily through the landfill's commercial unit, pays for the cost of residential waste collection and recycling collection in town. The landfill does not accept food waste or household garbage.
