A private, non-profit organization, the Middlesex Land Trust's mission is to preserve open space in northern Middlesex County by identifying, protecting and maintaining significant natural features such as wetlands, scenic areas, critical wildlife habitat, prime farmland and unique geological formations.
It works with other local land trusts, private interests and federal, state and local governments to protect and preserve land for future generations. Since 1987, the trust has acquired more than 850 acres of land. Parcels range in size from less than an acre to the 88-acre Mica Ledges Preserve.
The trust accepts donations of property as well as conservation easements to ensure lands remain in open space. The trust is a volunteer-driven organization governed by a 12-member board of directors.
