In October 1890, a few gentlemen met by invitation at the residence of Mr. William A. Lottimer, Richmond Hill, Stamford, Conn., for the purpose of organizing a yacht club. At this meeting it was voted to name the club, the Stamford Yacht Club. The club s amenities include tennis courts, mooring field, vineyard deck, ballroom, galley bar, lawn, beach, grill room, library, tennis pro shop and swimming pools. Since late in the 1800s, when Stamford Harbor began to buzz with the excitement of recreational boating, SYC has gathered great fleets of sailors for regattas and races of all scales. There is an active yearlong racing schedule, with around-the-buoy races, Olympic course events, sprints, world-class distance races and frostbiting. The Stamford Yacht Club features six Har-Tru tennis courts, four of which are lit for night play. The Club is a member of the United States Tennis Association.
