In 1860, George C. Shaw opened his first store in Portland, Maine. For more than 140 years, Shaw's Supermarkets has been operating a chain of grocery stores that offers a variety of food products and services. It employs approximately 30,000 associates in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Vermont. The company provides a variety of food items, such as olive oil, frozen entrees and pizzas, coffees and teas, cookies, soups and meat products. Its additional products include cough and cold medications, pain relievers, vitamins and personal care items. In addition, Shaw s provides artificial preservatives and additives, nutritional supplements, batteries, light bulbs, disposable cameras and household products. Shaw's Supermarkets maintains a location in Enfield, Conn.
