The Ridgefield Police Department, headed by Chief John Roche, is a 27-officer force headquartered in a former house on East Ridge Road across from the Venus Complex. Until the 1970s, the building housed State Police Troop A, currently stationed in Southbury.
Ridgefield's department patrols, responds to emergency calls and organizes community law enforcement happenings like the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in schools and Neighborhood Watch. The department also organizes an annual children's Halloween party at the community center.
The department is overseen by the town's Police Commission, a five-member body that meets once a month.
In addition to a detective unit, the department has a bike patrol and a K-9 unit.
