Built in 1834, Hurlbutt Street is one of the nine one-room schoolhouses that dotted Wilton when town was a small farm community. The only remaining schoolhouse from this era in Wilton, the school closed in 1935. Recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, the school is set up as it was more than 100 years ago—complete with school desks, a large portrait of George Washington and a wildflower garden, which currently serves as an outdoor science lab for 700 school children each year.
