HART Transit is greater Danbury, Conn. s public transportation provider. It was founded in 1972, and currently operates a 15 route system as well as Paratransit /Dial-a-Ride service. HART runs Bus-to-Rail shuttles, a trackless Trolley, Contract transit and maintenance services. HART provides service to the greater Danbury area and beyond, with connections to other transit providers in the New York and Connecticut metro areas including Danbury, New Milford, Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel, Redding, New Fairfield, Norwalk, Ridgefield and Wilton. The agency was created in 1972 through referendum of the citizens of Danbury and Bethel as the Danbury-Bethel Transit District. During the early years, staff of the Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials managed the district's operations and called meetings of the board of directors.
