The Head Start program is known as one of the nation's best early childhood education programs for preschoolers. Naugatuck's Early Childhood Development Center offers both a Head Start and School Readiness Program. The Head Start program is free to families whose criteria is below the Federal Income Guidelines, particularly for families who may receive public assistance or other governmental subsidies. The Head Start program is also for children who are three and four years old and are in foster care. Families with a child with a diagnosed disability also qualify for the program.
