Named in 1990 after the late Edward Schongalla, a popular science teacher, Scout leader and outdoorsman, the Edward Schongalla Nature Preserve contains 27 acres of mature forest and wetlands. A small lake sits along the eastern side of the preserve, and the wetlands that comprise over half the preserve form an important part of Cider Mill Brook. The preserve's huge overhanging rock and cave beneath—formally known as Wolf Cave or Indian Cave—once served as a rock shelter used by the Native Americans.
