History
The CT CDK Academy maintains an especially fine reputation for its children's program. Over the past years, thousands of children, ages 4-13, have benefited from Taekwondo training. In addition to the self-defense training, children learn about the many different aspects of respect, discipline, and self-confidence. As a physical activity, Taekwondo has proven to be an excellent method of sharpening reflexes, and developing agility and coordination. These skills carry over into all sports and physical activities. Our children's program will develop the best in your child; for example it will teach the timid child to be more confident and outgoing. The aggressive child will learn to be more calm and respectful. Children are often brought to us because of bully problems. Parents are pleased to find that, after a short period of time, these problems disappear, due to the child's increased self-confidence. We guarantee that parents will see positive changes in their children afte
Specialties
Taekwondo, the ancient Korean art of self defense, has existed for over two thousand years and has been taught in the United States since the 1960's. Chung Do Kwan is a method of teaching Taekwondo to groups of people developed in Korea in the 1940's. Students begin as low level white belts and gradually progress through the ranks of yellow, green, blue and brown belts. It takes an average of three to four years to reach the rank of black belt. Upon reaching the rank of first degree black belt, students continue to develop their skills to move in the black belt ranks. Grand Master David J. Turgeon holds a seventh degree black belt. He has been studying and teaching the art and science of Taekwondo for more than thirty-nine years. Grand Master Turgeon supervises and instructs all CT Chung Do Kwan Instructors, black belts and students. The staff of the Colchester Chung Do Kwan Academy consists of Certified Black Belt Instructors trained in the teaching techniques needed for your success in Taekwondo.
