Churchery Nursery School is a preschool located on the lowest level of the Memorial United Methodist Church on West Avon Road/Highway 167, near the border of Avon and Farmington. The preschool is affiliated with the church, with two representatives on its Board of Directors, but its curriculum is nondenominational and it welcomes children of all religious backgrounds. Churchery currently enrolls between 85 and 90 children, with ratios of one teacher per four children for the 2-year-olds and one per eight for the 3- and 4-year-olds. Additionally, the program is expanding by adding a new class for kindergarten-age children beginning in Fall 2011. Classes for Churchery Nursery School run either in the morning or afternoon, with most children attending one or two classes per week at age 2, two or three classes at age 3, and three or four classes by age 4.
The school utilizes two adjacent play rooms for its 3 and 4-year-old classes, with its 2-year-old classroom situated across the hall. The rooms are filled with bright colors and toys designed to engage a child's imagination and creativity. The staff at Churchery believe in play-based education, while introducing children to new experiences such as arts and crafts, music and outdoor activities.
Information on programs, upcoming events, and reminders are shared with parents through The Churchery bulletin, which is published every session. You can visit the Churchery Web site, call the office or stop by for more information on classes, events and availability.
