History
The Sheridan Opera House was built in 1913 by J.A. Segerberg as a vaudeville theater and cultural center for the town of Telluride. In the early 1990s, the SOH was in jeopardy of commercial development, but was saved from demolition by the creation of the Sheridan Arts Foundation (SAF) and restoration efforts taken on by The Colorado Historical Society. Today, the SAF continues its mission as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization to: -Restore and preserve the historic Sheridan Opera House as an arts and cultural resource for the Telluride community -Bring quality arts and cultural events to Telluride -Provide local and national youth with access and exposure to the arts through education The Sheridan Opera House serves as a beautiful theater with a variety of configurations allowing it to host events of all types from movies to concerts, recitals, lectures, conferences and weddings. The SAF subsidizes rent to local non-profits, schools and other community entities.
