In more than 25 years of practice in Colorado Springs, Dr. Ronald O. Royce has earned a reputation as a leader and innovator in knee and shoulder surgeries.Dr. Royce focuses on shoulder and knee sports medicine and conditions caused by arthritis. He was one of the first surgeons in the region to perform custom 3D ConforMIS knee replacements.Breaking his arms three times -the right twice, the left once in high school gave him an appreciation for the healing work of orthopedic surgeons, as well as for what its like to be a patient, Dr. Royce says.In his own practice, Dr. Royce enjoys treating Colorados athletes, whether Olympic caliber or the weekend-warrior variety. He is a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Program. Dr. Royce also was a team physician for the U.S. team at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. In addition, Dr. Royce has cared for Colorado Springs high school athletes for more than 20 years.I try to take care of patients the way I would want my family taken care of, and establish a dialogue, he says. Often that dialogue includes advice on getting in shape, especially when surgery is needed. If youre in shape before surgery, youll recover much better after surgery. But, selling patients on surgery isnt part of his approach. I try to educate people about what the problem is and what their choices are.
