Initially on a scouting mission for a railroad company, John Osgood recognized the potential for developing a full-scale coal mining operation in and around Redstone, Colo. In 1892 he formed the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. In order to improve the living conditions of the miners, Osgood constructed more than 80 Swiss chalet style homes to house miners with families and a 20-room inn, which is now the Redstone Inn. Winter activities at the inn include sleigh rides, skiing, Nordic trails, romance packages, ice climbing, annual sweetheart ball, Christmas activities and sled dog racing. Spring activities include Redstone Preserve, UTE Meadows Nordic Center, skiing, golf, and Easter and Mother s Day activities. Summer activities include fly-fishing, golf, horse riding, fishing, rafting, hunting, tours of landmarks, lounge, spa treatments, shopping and an art walk. Fall activities include art show and Thanksgiving Day dinner. Redstone Inn is located in Redstone.
