With a service area of more than 3,000 square miles in central Colorado, La Plata Electrical Association is a nonprofit electrical cooperative. It offers residents and businesses in five counties La Plata, Archuleta, Hinsdale, Mineral and San Juan services such as residential and commercial electricity, oil and gas pumping, snow making, street lighting, irrigation and light industrial power. The association operates more than 3,000 miles of distribution lines, including nearly 200 miles of high-voltage transmission lines. La Plata Electrical Association was incorporated in 1939 and has headquarters in Durango, Colo. Its power is supplied by Denver-based Tri-State Generation & Transmission Association.
