KidsPak is a weekend hunger-relief program for students in the Thompson School District, including Berthoud, Colorado. The program is entirely run by community volunteers who raise funds, purchase, pack, and deliver weekend food bags to food-insecure students. In 2020, KidsPak provided over 27,500 weekend food bags, equivalent to 165,400 meals, and the dedicated team of volunteers contributed nearly 24,600 hours to support the cause.
KidsPak aims to address the alarming statistics of child hunger in Colorado, where nearly 1 in 7 kids do not always know when or where they will get their next meal. Additionally, approximately 1 in 6 households with children in the state report an inability to afford adequate food. By partnering with schools in the Thompson and Berthoud School District, KidsPak strives to provide much-needed weekend food that meets the nutritional requirements of children, with the ultimate goal of significantly reducing these distressing statistics.
