The Geological Society of America, also known as GSA, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of geosciences. Established in 1888, it is a global professional society with a membership of more than 21,000 individuals in over 85 countries. The organization provides access to elements that are essential to the professional growth of earth scientists in the academic, government, business and industry sectors. The Geological Society of America organizes various scientific meetings and conferences, as well as publishes a variety of scientific literature. It also administers several educational and mentoring programs and fosters public awareness related to geosciences issues. Additionally, the organization operates a bookstore that sells a variety of abstracts, journals, maps, memorials, CD-ROMs and apparel. The Geological Society of America is located in Boulder, Colo.
