Fruit & Vegetable Inspection Service operates as a full-service division of the Colorado Department of Agriculture. The division conducts grade, size and quality inspections for more than 2.1 billion pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables annually. It offers inspection services for peaches, apples, potatoes, sweet corn, onions, broccoli and lettuce. The division employs a staff of over 45 individuals that includes inspectors and administrative and other support personnel. It is also involved with Good Agricultural Practices and the Good Handling Practices Audit Verification Program. In addition, Fruit & Vegetable Inspection Service helps the agricultural industry to minimize microbial food safety hazards.
