Eye Pieces of Vail, the locals' optical shop, was started in 1984 by a 23 year old from upstate New York. Dan Barry, the son of an optician and an avid skier, who hitchhiked to Vail after working the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Planning only to visit, Dan took a job at an optical shop on E. Meadow Dr. After four years, he took over the shop and renamed it Eye Pieces of Vail. In 2014, the flagship store on E. Meadow Dr. was remodeled.
