El Paso County Department of Transportation plans, builds, maintains and operates transportation system in Colorado. Its highway division maintains the road network and drainage system through operations, such as snow removal, ice control, flood repairs and other emergency response. The division comprises roadways, drainage and support groups. The drainage group is responsible for the crossroad culverts and pipes, roadside ditches, concrete curbs and sidewalks, bridges, detention ponds and drainage channels. The roadways group is responsible for the roadway s surface, base course and shoulders. The department s engineering division comprises five groups responsible for engineering design and program management; contracts and stormwater management; construction management and inspection; surveying; and traffic engineering/transportation planning.
