Founded in 1913, the American Cancer Society, also known as ACS, is a community-based, voluntary health care organization that offers cancer prevention programs. Headquartered in Atlanta, the organization operates more than 3,300 offices throughout the United States. It conducts behavioral and psychosocial cancer research to improve cancer control policies. The organization publishes several cancer awareness brochures, pamphlets, books and journals for patients, families and health care professionals.
