Ward Stafford Clay has led a notable career focusing on criminal law cases in San Diego for more than 30 years. His career began in 1986 as a prosecutor in the San Diego City Attorney's Office. As a top trial attorney, he rose to the Chief Appellate Unit and joined the San Diego District Attorney's Office in 1989 where he served as a trial attorney and a prosecutor for the elite J.U.D.G.E. unit; a specialized task force responsible for investigation and prosecution of documented criminal street gang members involved in narcotics crimes. Mr. Clay left the District Attorney's Office in 1991 to enter private practice as a criminal defense lawyer. The State Bar of California has certified him as a specialist in criminal law since 2001.
