History
Prior to licensure, I worked extensively in culturally diverse communities. These positions included a lengthy private practice internship seeing adults and children. Additionally, I worked at San Francisco's General Hospital, Egeler Correctional Facility, The Lynn Center's Parent Child Support Services in Contra Costa County, Edgewood Center for Children and Families, Legal Services for Children and at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. I enjoy working in private practice. The environment provides a challenge and intensity for both the client and therapist.
Specialties
Therapy is a rare opportunity to be understood by another person. The more we feel understood by another, the more we are able to untangle emotional and interpersonal knots that lead us into treatment in the first place I believe that each person has to be understood within the context of his/her life history. Sometimes people come to therapy because they suspect they have a role in 'what is' - but can't put a finger on how/what to do to make things better. I am particularly sensitive to understanding one's ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds. My clients struggle with relationships, self-esteem, work-related stress, career changes, anxiety/depression, mood disorders, divorce and parenting concerns. My extensive background also includes work with children and adolescents. My young clients (children and adolescents) experience the challenges of depression/anxiety, school refusal, bullying, low self-esteem, academic pressure, the effects of divorce and custody decisions, sibling rivalry, and risky behaviors such as substance use, self-injury and suicidal ideation.
