Introduction Vista High School serves as an alternative student-centered educational program for eligible secondary students. The major thrust of the educational program is to assist students along a learning path which leads towards completion of requirements for the high school diploma, passage of the High School Proficiency Test or GED Test, helping the students identify and learn the skills they need to complete his/her education at adult/vocational school ; or, to enter the work force. Vista High School serves students from both the city of Escalon and rural areas of Van Allen, Farmington and Collegeville. We recognize that learning is a positive life-long activity that allows the individual to reach his/her potential as a human being. As such, Vista High provides comprehensive testing, individualized and group instruction, extensive personal and educational counseling, School-to-Career opportunities, and a favorable teacher-student ratio to enable students the opportunity to achieve success. In addition to a core curriculum in alignment with statewide curriculum standards, a large emphasis is also made on strengthening each student's basic educational skills. Electives are also offered to supplement the curriculum, many of which are based on students needs for successful community participation and contribution. Special emphasis is made in the Vista High program to create a positive atmosphere where students are motivated and encouraged to improve their own individual circumstances, as well as learn to make contributions for the betterment of the school and community. To accomplish this goal, the Vista staff continually strives to raise the self esteem of each and every student through a learning environment that includes daily, continual availability of support, counseling, and supervision.
