The Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation (VSEDC) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the South Los Angeles community since 1979. Led by Marva Smith Battle-Bey, VSEDC provides a range of economic resources and support to low- and moderate-income residents and businesses in the area. Their services include business courses, one-on-one business assistance, access to capital through their CDFI revolving loan fund, and tech courses through their Best Buy Teen Tech Center and AT&T Connected Learning Center. VSEDC is dedicated to empowering the community and fostering economic growth.
Over the past 40 years, VSEDC has evolved from a grassroots neighborhood organization to an established anchor institution in South LA. They have played a crucial role in the development of the Vermont-Slauson Shopping Center, the first major retail investment in the community since the 1965 Watts riots. Through their various initiatives, such as the CEO Series, Business In The Pews, and Level Up CDFI Lending, VSEDC continues to champion for community development and economic empowerment in South Los Angeles.
