History
Situated in the heart of downtown Oakland, this Inn is listed on the City of Oakland Register of Historic Sites and maintains an old world charm while updating the amenities for modern comfort. Built in the 1900s, our Inn is also iconic of Asian American history. When the Chinese first immigrated to Oakland in the 1850s, they settled along what is present day Webster Street, expanding from the corner of Webster and 8th, less than a five-minute walk from the Inn. In the early 1900s when the San Francisco Bay Area issued policy bans segregating Japanese immigrants, many integrated with the Chinese in Oakland Chinatown. As a result, a syncretic culture between the Chinese and Japanese thrived in the historic district from the 1900s to the 1940s. Our Inn puts you at the center of that legacy.
