History
Toyo Miyatake Studio was started by Toyo Miyatake in 1923 in Los Angeles, CA. During WW2, the Miyatake family were incarcerated to Manzanar, CA, a relocation Center for the Japanese Americans. There, Toyo smuggled in a lens and built a camera out of wood. After WW2 ,he returned to Los Angeles and resumed his photography studio. His son Archie, took over the business in the 1960s and eventually move the business to San Gabriel where his son Alan presently runs the studio. 3 generations of high quality portraiture, this studio is known for excellent lighting and retouching. Alan has taken studio portraiture to a new digital era. With the latest technology and the same superior lighting and posing you will see the difference.
