Jefferson is one of the larger elementary schools in the San Leandro School District, with over 600 students. It's also one of the newest schools in the district, having moved to its current site just six years ago.
Three special day classes cater to special needs children from preschool age up to 5th grade. There's an on-site after school program run by the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro. Jefferson has a new iMac computer lab, a library and art room.

Davis Street Family Resource Center runs a Child Development Center at Jefferson, offering Pre-K and an after school enrichment program. The center is licensed to care for 86 children, ages 2 years 9 months up to 12 years of age.
