Founded in 2001, the West Oakland Community Collaborative consists of eight community-based organizations serving West Oakland in California. The organizations address a range of issues, such as substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, job training and economic development. The collaborative offers youth development, crime prevention and housing programs. The West Oakland Community Collaborative is located in Oakland, Calif., and is a part of the Prescott-Joseph Center, which is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1995. The center offers art classes for elementary school students and organizes music workshops. It operates an asthma education center that conducts one-on-one sessions on how to manage asthma, use medication and devices and build skills on preventing asthma attacks.
