History
Best's Studio was founded by Harry Best, a painter, in Yosemite Valley. Best's daughter, Virginia, married Ansel Adams in 1928, and ran the business while Ansel established himself as one of the great artists of all time. Ansel and Virginia changed the name to The Ansel Adams Gallery around 1968 to reflect the focus on photography art and photography education. Even with the name change, they were strong supporters of classic and contemporary artists of all types, which underscores our commitment to and representation of the same. Ansel established the world's first photography workshop program in 1940. We continue that tradition today with a mix of regularly scheduled half-day classes and week-long intensive workshops. The Gallery is currently operated by the fourth generation, and we are the oldest single family owned and operated business within the National Park system. The Ansel Adams Gallery an authorized concession of the National Park Service.
