The Buck Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding the correlation between aging and chronic diseases. In a relatively short period of time, the center has become one of the international epicenters of research on Alzheimer's disease, stem cells therapies and other aging-related maladies since it opened in 1999. The institute was founded with seed money from the Buck Trust, set up by a phlianthropic Marin County family. At the eye-catching campus on the slopes of Mount Burdell designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the scientists conduct research to find ways to detect, prevent and treat a variety of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and strokes.
