Soka Gakkai of America-USA is part of an international organization based in the Nichiren branch of Buddhism. Nichiren Buddhism dates back to 13th-century Japan and reached the United States in 1960.
This location, called SGI Plaza, provides a place for meetings, practice and member study. Inside the lobby is a bookstore and cafe selling various books about the Nichiren movement and culture, as well as incense, beads and altars. SGI-USA events take place at the SGI-USA World Culture Center across the street.
