One of Davis's older, more-established suburban parks, Slide Hill's main attraction is probably unique among Central Valley cities. The Slide Hill itself stands maybe 80 feet tall, is flanked by mature conifers and one face is very steep cement. The uniqueness comes in because, in order to slide down, kids have to improvise, sitting on flattened cardboard boxes as they hurtle down to the woodchip-softened receiving area at the bottom. The park has several swimming pools – one is Olympic sized and the diving pool is around twenty feet deep under a ten-meter diving platform. A pair of sculpted dolphins cavort nearby. Jungle gyms and play structures are scattered throughout groves of trees and meadows. There's also a full basketball court, backstopped softball/baseball diamonds and an off-leash dog run. There are picnic table pavilions and grills in quieter reaches of the park. There is a fee to swim in any of the pools. The cashier station is located at the bathhouse entrance. Showers and lockers are available.
