The Sierra Madre Police Department has approximately 22 full-time members comprised of 17 sworn officers including a chief of police, a lieutenant, three sergeants, two corporals and ten patrol officers. The department has four non-sworn desk officers and dispatchers.
The department also has several part-time personnel, including administrative positions and desk officers. As many as ten volunteers also assist in operations.
With the March 14th, 2006 appointment of Marilyn Diaz, a former Commander at the Pasadena Police Department, the SMPD has the distinction of being the first and only municipal police department to be helmed by a female chief of police.
Under the watch of the Sierra Madre Police Department, the City of Sierra Madre maintains one of the lowest crime rates in all of California.
