History
sfclayworks grew out of the closure of the long established, and well respected San Francisco art space, The Clay Studio, which was originally born from the DeYoung museum, and later run by John DeLois. When he retired, many of The Clay Studio members, who were passionate about working with clay, looked for a new place to continue making our art. We established sfclayworks in 2011 to continue to pursue our love for the ceramic arts.
Specialties
sfclayworks is a not for profit, cooperative, ceramics studio established in 2011. Our structure changed in 2020, and we no longer offer classes, but now offer 24/7 access to all members who must be able to work independently. Members are asked to contribute to chores and daily studio work and are offered in house workshops at no extra cost on topics covering pottery techniques as well as making glazes, loading kilns etc. We cannot accommodate production potters or slip casters, but welcome all potters interested in elevating their personal skills, as well as furthering the craft of ceramics in general.
