Operational since 1961, Save The Bay is one of the largest regional organizations working to protect and restore San Francisco Bay. It conducts a range of services to protect the Bay from pollution and inappropriate shoreline development. The organization restores habitat and secures policies to re-establish 100,000 acres of wetlands. It engages more than 25,000 supporters, advocates and volunteers to protect the Bay and also educates a large number of students annually. The organization has been a recipient of the Neighborhood Builders Award by Bank of America.
